Abstract
Background: The SMART D-COV mobile App was developed to facilitate surveillance of COVID-19 and dengue in Indonesia. However, its usability for this purpose requires empirical evaluation. Aim: This study aimed to assess user experience and effectiveness of the SMART D-COV app in supporting environmental surveillance for both diseases. Methods: A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was employed, integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative phase utilized the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ), a validated tool for measuring user satisfaction with systems. A total of 200 participants completed the PSSUQ survey. In the subsequent qualitative phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with ten users to gather insights into their satisfaction and perceptions of the App. Result: The results from the PSSUQ indicated that users rated the app positively in terms of usability, convenience, and interface design. Qualitative findings revealed that the App is perceived as an effective tool for conducting surveillance of co-epidemic diseases, specifically COVID-19 and dengue. Conclusion: Despite its potential, users emphasized the need for robust government support, including training and resources, to enable large-scale implementation across Indonesia. The study concludes that the SMART D-COV app is a promising tool for enhancing disease surveillance, but its broader adoption depends on targeted capacity-building efforts.
