Abstract
Background: Penile tumors in dogs, though is rare, but can significantly impact reproductive health and overall well-being. This case study describes the surgical management of a penile tumor in a 4-year-old street dog presented at Pet and Vet Care Center, Sylhet.
Case presentation: A progressively enlarging, cauliflower-like mass on the penis and prepuce was diagnosed via clinical examination. The mass was surgically excised under general anesthesia, ensuring complete tumor removal while preserving penile function. Postoperative care involved antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy, along with meticulous wound management. The dog recovered well; however, recurrence at the urethral orifice necessitated further intervention.
Conclusion: This case emphasizes the significance of early detection, optimal surgical management, and diligent follow-up care in treating canine penile tumors. It also highlights the necessity of public awareness and accessible veterinary services for managing transmissible venereal tumors (TVT) in free-roaming dog populations. Future studies should investigate multimodal treatment strategies, integrating surgery and chemotherapy, to enhance long-term outcomes.
