Abstract
Background: Abnormal blood parameters in COVID-19 patients are important prognostic factors of disease severity. Objective: to examined the correlation between hematologic parameters and the severity of COVID-19. Method: Blood parameters, Biomarkers, and coagulation factors for hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Misurata's quarantine centers had measured and data had analyzed. Meta-analysis had performed to compare the effect of these medications in different times day 1, 7 after admission of the hospital stay period and at the end of the infection period. Results: Our study showed that there are significant changes in blood parameters such as D-dimer which varied between the three measurements, with the average readings being (2.44 FEU/ml) on the first day of admission, which was over the usual range of (0.5 FEU/ml). The WBC count linked to the probability of death, there was an elevation of Platelets (PLT) from first day to last day with significant increase of the cumulative survival rate (p < 0.007) in those with high platelets count, and the CRP results for all patients were very high in all infection periods and they were significantly elevated on normal range. Even though, the CRP value slightly decreased after the treatment from (88.67 to59.43).
Conclusion: Severe COVID-19 characterized by hematological changes in routine blood parameters that COVID-19 is associated with could serve as indicators for the prognosis and severity of COVID-19. Therefore, our study findings might help to develop a treatment protocol for COVID-19 patients at the hospital setup.
