INFANTILE FIBROSARCOMA OF THE MAXILLA: A CASE REPORT OF A RARE CLINICAL PRESENTATION WITH DIAGNOSTIC AND TREATMENT INSIGHTS.

Abstract
Fibrosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor of mesenchymal cell origin that is characterized by malignant fibroblasts embedded in a collagen matrix. Infantile fibrosarcoma is a variant that usually occurs in infants and young children. Infantile fibrosarcoma is a rare tumor, forming <1% of all childhood tumors, and is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children aged 1 year. It can occur in any part of the body, but it is rare in the head and neck region. The treatment is usually surgery with adjuvant or neoadjuvant modality. Infantile fibrosarcoma has a very good prognosis higher than 80%. We report a case of left maxillary infantile fibrosarcoma in a 5-year old child of 13 months duration. The late presentation and absconding of this case could have been prevented through enhanced surveillance system and concerted effort towards achieving universal health coverage in our society.
