Abstract
Aim/Background
Trauma, abuse, or illnesses that weaken bones can all lead to fractures, which are defined as whole or partial breaks in the continuity of bone. This study aimed to assess the frequency of fracture cases in caprine and ovine species presented at the Sokoto Veterinary Clinic over a five-year period (2013–2017).
Methods
Data were collected on breed, age, type of fracture, and management strategies.
Results
Out of 398 fracture cases, 278 occurred in ovine species and 120 in caprine species. Tibio-fibula fractures were the most prevalent injury, occurring more frequently in adult animals than in juveniles. Older animals had a higher incidence of fractures compared to younger ones.
Conclusion
The findings indicate that ovine species and older animals are at greater risk of fractures, with tibio-fibula fractures being the most common. These results highlight the need for targeted preventive measures, improved handling practices, and age-specific management strategies to reduce fracture incidence and enhance animal welfare.

Key words: Fracture, Bone, Retrospective study Incidence, Trauma.
