Abstract
Objective:The aim of this work was to use in vivo models to evaluate the analgesic, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities of the combined aqueous extracts of Pandanus foetidus Roxb. Method: Following the extraction by cold extraction process, standard laboratory protocols were used to investigate their analgesic, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activity test through acetic acid induced writhing method, carrageenan induced paw edema test and brine shrimp bioassay, respectively. Result:Following the acetic acid induced writher test; 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg dose displayed significant analgesic activity with 33.33% and 41.36% writhing inhibition. At the same time, in carrageenan-induced paw edema assay, 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg doses produced significant anti-inflammatory effects of 45.33% and 66.21% respectively. The combined plant extract also evaluated for its cytotoxic activity that produces LC50 value of 1020.14μg/ml on brine shrimp nauplii. Conclusion:The results suggest that the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of the combined aqueous extracts obtained from Pandanus foetidus operate via a peripheral-mediated mechanism. It can be applicable as a new lead compound for the management of pain and inflammation. This is first time were combine effects of this plant extract has been evaluated.
