KanScrum: A Kanban + Scrum Hybrid Methodology

Adnan Shaout, Brendan Parker, Jacob Westerbeek, Sundara Subramanian Swaminathan.

Abstract
Aim/Background: In this paper, we propose KanScrum, a new hybrid software development methodology that combines the flexibility of Kanban with a lightweight interpretation of the structure of scrum taking the strengths of both methods while combating their weaknesses.
Methods: The proposed method was implemented by building a small-scale software project and compared it with Kanban and Scrum by conducting the same experiment using Kanban and Scrum to compare metrics.
Results: The results of this 3-way experiment were able to demonstrate the clear advantages of using our KanScrum method, especially in the areas of improved adaptability, increased capacity and higher team efficiency and throughput.
Conclusion: The main objective of the new proposed method was to achieve maximum flexibility and continuous flow while still maintaining a semblance of time-bound processes to ensure compliance to deadlines.
